Future Ready Work Immersion Program
Future Ready Cafe

The Future Ready Work Immersion Program is a partnership between the Capital Area Intermediate Unit, IU13, and PaTTAN Harrisburg that provides a comprehensive approach to preparing young adults with disabilities for meaningful and productive adult lives. By incorporating the four program pillars of employment, independent living, community inclusion, and post-secondary education/training, the program takes a holistic approach to prepare individuals with disabilities to lead rich and fulfilling lives.

Classroom Curriculum

Students participate in functional academics that stress employability and independent living skills. Major classroom focus areas include:

  • Working responsibly
  • Communicating effectively
  • Solving problems
  • Developing critical thinking skills
  • Planning and managing a career
  • Financial literacy
  • Applying technology
  • Developing self-advocacy skills

Work Rotations

Students participate in a rotation of unpaid/paid internships. Worksite assignments are based on students' previous work experience, interests, and vocational assessments. Students also have the opportunity to receive training in the student-run Future Ready Cafe. Job coaches and business team members collaborate to provide support, with students taking on more responsibility as they gain independence.
