  • Google Educator Level 2 Certification Boot Camp

    Teachers and administrators seeking Google Educator Level 2 Certification will have the opportunity to prepare for the Google Educator exam during a two-day boot camp on November 20 and December 4, 2015. Participants will learn the essentials of Google Apps for Education. Rich Kiker, a top-rated Google Certified Trainer, will facilitate the course and guide participants through various activities and classroom examples using media rich content, web based tutorials, and video learning libraries.

    Learning outcomes and test preparation for the Google Educator exam include the following:

  • Call for iPad Summit Session Presenters

    Mark your calendars: The CAIU 4th Annual iPad Summit is on Friday, December 11, 2015. Registration will be open soon! We are currently seeking presenters for sessions and poster sessions for the event. Sessions are hour-long presentations and poster sessions are mini-sessions for teachers to share an idea, activity, or app in a more informal way. Those chosen to present a session or a poster session will have their registration fee waived. You can read about last year's sessions here.

    The event, which has sold out in the past, brings together educators, technology directors, principals, and school leaders for a day of presentations, workshops, and hands-on sessions to identify emerging best practices and effective methods of implementing and using iPads in the classroom.

  • Nominations open for Josephine J. Decima Award for Excellence in the Field of Special Education

    Do you know an educator who goes above and beyond in the area of special education? Please consider nominating them for the 2015 Josephine J. Decima Award. This award is presented annually to a teacher in the CAIU’s service area whose commitment and service in the field of special education epitomizes the qualities that Josephine Decima demonstrated in her work with children. It will be presented during American Education Week. The CAIU is pleased to announce that this honor will also include a $500 monetary award graciously donated by the Decima family.

    Nominees should demonstrate:
    • Advocacy for the educational needs of all children, especially those with physical and mental challenges.
    • Compassion for students with special needs.
    • Commitment to help children with special needs become a vital part of the community.
    • Effort to provide valuable and practical life experiences for students with special needs.
    • Willingness to share knowledge, skills, and experiences with colleagues in order to strengthen educational programs and pedagogy.
    • Initiative to seek and provide services for students with special needs.

    Nominations can come from professionals or the community. Nominees must be an educator of students with special needs who works within the CAIU service area and must hold PA Level II Certification in the area of special education.
