Transportation Services

The Capital Area Intermediate Unit (CAIU) Transportation Department serves the specialized transportation needs of nearly 1,000 Preschool Early Intervention and School-age special needs students in our region. School districts choose whether to take advantage of the cooperative transportation services that we offer, or to provide for transportation themselves or with their preferred contractor. We currently have five contractors using over 100 vehicles - mostly passenger vans - traveling nearly 3 million miles per year as they serve students and regional school districts. Our goal is to provide safe, efficient, customer-friendly service that complements the school day and ensures that all students are transported to and from their homes and their classrooms in a professional manner.
