American Sign Language Classes
Level 1 Class
This class introduces the basics of American Sign Language (ASL) and is designed for students who have little or no previous knowledge of ASL. The course will include ABC's and numbers, basic vocabulary and light conversation. Information about the Deaf Community and Deaf Culture will be introduced. Instructor, Hillary Krokonko

Wednesday | July 13 - August 17 | 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Level 2 Class (Currently Unavailable)
This class assumes that the participant has acquired basic skills taught in an introductory course. The course will continue vocabulary development. Level II will also introduce classifiers, directionality, and some basic ASL grammar.
Cost: $60 per person, $30 per person if you have a family member in the CAIU Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program (DHH)

Level II Optional DVD: Progressive Fingerspelling. Available for purchase on the first night of class for $13.
Conversation/Level 3-4 Class
This class will focus on using ASL in conversation. Each class will start with a review of vocabulary on a given topic followed up with interactive activities to use your skills. It is designed for those who have completed a level 1 course or higher (should know your ABCs, numbers, and basic vocabulary/phrases) and want to practice their skills in a structured setting. Educators Seeking Act 48 Credit: Act 48 credit will be offered upon successful completion of each level. All necessary information must be provided. Student cannot miss more than one class. At the conclusion of the class, CAIU will submit your hours to the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE). You need to register here for Act 48 credits.
Reimbursement Requests: If you are requesting reimbursement from your employer, it is your responsibility to complete all necessary paperwork and follow procedures as outlines by your Intermediate Unit, district, or employer.
