Overview
The CAPT program is unique in its ability to provide multiple pathways to a teaching degree. For people with a high school diploma to people with a bachelor’s degree but no teaching certification, there is a pathway to certification and a career in education. Click through the tabs on this page (above) to learn more about each pathway.
The degrees available through the CAPT Program are offered by various accredited institutions of higher education (IHEs) located in different states. All of the IHEs are part of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA), which is an agreement among member states, districts and territories that establishes comparable national standards for interstate offerings of postsecondary distance education courses and programs. It is intended to make it easier for students to take online courses offered by postsecondary institutions based in another state. However, please note that NC-SARA does not cover professional licensure or certification. Eligibility for licensure and/or certification involves more than successful degree completion. Please refer to the PA Department of Education's website regarding teacher certification to confirm the additional requirements for certification, which may vary depending upon the IHE that issues your degree.
Associate's Degree
About Associate's Degree Pathway
The CAPT Associate's Degree pathway is designed for those who have never attended college, or who have taken college courses but have not yet completed an associate's degree. Academic advisors will work with each participant to maximize credits already earned through college courses or life experience and develop a customized course schedule with options to take classes in-person or online.
"This is a great program. Challenge yourself to want to grow professionally and take this opportunity to better yourself and to better your career for the future."
- Christian Wright, Job Coach/Skills Trainer
Programs of Study

Bachelor's Degree
About Bachelor's Degree Pathway
The CAPT Teacher Apprenticeship Program (TAP) provides a pathway for participants who have already completed an associate's degree to earn a bachelor's degree in elementary or special education. This 60 credit pathway is designed for school staff already working in classrooms with regular access to students. TAP participants create a portfolio of artifacts demonstrating job-embedded skills that are uploaded for assessment and feedback by course faculty.
"I love this program! It's very flexible and fits my schedule! I'm excited for the future!"
- Kristie Folckemer, EPP
Programs of Study
Participants in the TAP pathway will complete 60 credits to earn their bachelor's degree in Elementary or Special Education. Participants will complete learning activities in an online platform and create and upload portfolios of artifacts demonstrating mastery in course objectives while in residency within the classroom. This "learn while you earn" model combines asynchronous learning activities, daily residency time allotted within the classroom, and student teaching embedded throughout the 2-year program completion timeline.
