The CAIU is leading the way on a ground-breaking, innovative new program that aims to raise up the next generation of educational leaders. The Capital Area Pathways to Teaching (CAPT) program partners with BloomBoard, a talent development provider that helps school districts with educator pipeline, advancement, and retention solutions, higher education institutions across Pennsylvania, and local school districts to create pathways to teacher certification.
CAPT has job-embedded and employer funded options for school employees seeking teacher certification to earn associate's and bachelor's degrees in education, or post-baccalaureate teacher certification. This program seeks to remove barriers for paraprofessionals already working in schools to earn teacher certification and help local school districts address teacher staffing needs.

CAPT Pathways
- Associate's Degree
Staff with less than 60 credits - Bachelor's Degree
Staff with 60+ credits or an Associate's Degree - Post-Baccalaureate Certification
Staff with a Bachelor's Degree - Mentor Support & Training
CAPT provides mandatory annual training for assigned mentors, offering multiple sessions. Additionally, Mentor Network Meetings are held each semester to provide training, support, and networking opportunities for mentors.
Requirements
- All participants require the approval of a district/building supervisor BEFORE enrollment.
- Program costs include books and materials.
- Transcript and certification exam fees are NOT included.
- Districts must sign a contract agreement with CAPT/CAIU each school year. Contracts cover 2-year cohorts.
- All participants require a peer mentor assigned by district/building supervisor.
- Progress reports are issued semi-monthly/
