The Alternative Education program is designed to provide a safe, structured placement for students exhibiting discipline code violations. These violations can range from on-going, chronic infractions deemed to be disruptive to a school district building’s learning environments to criminal acts threatening the safety of the student or school community. Philosophically, the program is designed to teach social skills and to practice restorative justice techniques. In collaboration with the district and family, a plan is developed to keep a student moving forward with credit acquisition while learning skills that will facilitate, when possible, the return to the home school.
