Description
Civil War America provides an in-depth look at America's history from 1860-1865, covering the effects and impact of America's greatest war on the home front. There is a major focus and in-depth examination of the causes, personalities, and impact of the war on American society and culture. Time is also dedicated to a survey look at key battles of the war and how these impacted the final outcome. The course is designed for students to understand the period through the perspective of eyewitnesses using primary documents from both Northerners and Southerners.

Description
Art History is a survey course covering art from Prehistoric times through the 21st century and from all corners of the world. The focus is mainly on Western or European art history. Students will receive an orientation to the history of art through virtual chat/discussions, reading, slide viewing, and internet research. The course provides good preparation for the Advanced Placement examination given in the spring. This AP Exam is available for students enrolled in the virtual course at Carlisle High School.

None

District of Origin Notes
For success in Art History, students should have maintained a B average or higher in English and Social Studies. An understanding of historical events that influenced the ideas, styles and techniques of artists as well as an ability to express this understanding in short answer and essay form is essential for a student to do well in the course and the AP exam. If students do not meet these criteria, they should contact the instructor, Mrs. Gallagher at Carlisle High School (240-6871), and request consideration for placement in the course.

This course is designed to teach critical thinking skills needed to manage money, buy insurance, and meet financial goals. Students will gain experience through simulations in acquiring a job, shopping for and maintaining an apartment and living on a budget. Human relationship skills will be studied for developing positive communication with co-workers and roommates. Students will practice survival skills in daily time management, apartment living, and several home cooking projects.
