Power Teaching is a framework, developed by Success for All Foundation, for mathematics instruction in grades 3 through 8 that uses cooperative learning to increase student engagement. The framework is designed to guide students through a cycle of instruction that includes concept presentations involving minute-to-minute assessments, structured team practice to promote opportunities for mastery by every student, individual assessment to monitor student learning, and feedback on team and individual progress to increase team interdependence and motivation. The multi-day framework can be used with any textbook or curriculum. It is supported by ongoing professional development. Power Teaching is designed to move from teacher-centered classroom to student-centered classroom with the use of cooperative learning and lesson-embedded assessment.
Each implementation of Power Teaching includes:
- A two-day initial training
- Four subsequent trainings designed to support program implementation and monitor student progress
- Access to a state-wide online learning community
- Videos to introduce students to core Power Teaching concepts
The training series is offered throughout the state in partnership with the Success for All Foundation, Pennsylvania Department of Education, and Lincoln Intermediate Unit #12.
