Each year gifted and talented high school students from across the commonwealth have the opportunity to compete for admission to the full-scholarship Pennsylvania Governor’s Schools of Excellence, eight residential summer programs on college campuses serving high school students with abilities and interests in the agricultural sciences, the creative and performing arts, global entrepreneurship, health care, information technology, international studies, the sciences and teaching.

Information and registration materials are disseminated in the fall to all district and private high schools in the CAIU region to assist them in enrolling student applicants in the summer schools provided by the state to those who qualify. In January, CAIU coordinates the judging of over 100 portfolios for the School for the Arts candidates in the disciplines of Visual Arts, Photography, Theater Performance and Technical Production, Music, Creative Writing and Dance.
