The Right to Education Consent Agreement of 1972 provided for the establishment of a Local Task Force in each of the 29 Intermediate Units across Pennsylvania.  The primary purpose is to ensure that the intent and spirit of the Right to Education Consent Agreement is carried out throughout the Commonwealth.

The Local Task Force #15 is a group of parents and professionals working together to insure the right to education for persons receiving special education services in the Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry and Northern York counties.  The Local Task Force is comprised of parents, school district representatives, county mental health/mental retardation office (MH/MR) representatives, a CAIU representative, and representatives from the local ARC offices.

The mission of the Local Task Force #15 is to provide a public forum that promotes collaboration among parents, educators, and community agency professionals to address issues affecting all students receiving Special Education services in order to strengthen and improve programs and supports in Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry and Northern York counties.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out the letter and the spirit of the Right to Education Consent Agreement
  • Review special education legislation and other legislation affecting school-aged children
  • Serve in an advisory and advocacy role to protect the rights of students with disabilities
  • Monitor and observe special education programs and services
  • Make recommendations that improve, strengthen, and expand programs
  • Identify and refer programs to appropriate local agencies or the State Task Force
  • Review and comment on IU and school district special education plans and budgets
  • Encourage cooperation with public and private agencies in planning for continuum of programs and services and a minimum of duplication
  • Educate the community at large about the needs of students with disabilities
  • Follow procedures, policies, and guidelines as outlined by the State Task Force

Meeting Information

Local Task Force #15 meetings are open to the public. Anyone wishing to attend is welcome.

Meetings are held in the Dogwood/Hemlock Room of the CAIU Summerdale Building. Get directions to this location.

When?

Meetings are held on Mondays from 10:00 AM - 12:00 noon.
