This class covers assessment, first aid and care and evacuation planning for injuries sustained in remote locations. Delayed help is when an incident is more than half a mile or half an hour from definitive medical care.
The training is recommended for anybody responsible for taking groups into remote locations, including field study, hikes, youth groups, outdoor pursuits and canoeing.
These skills also would be of value in disasters or civil emergencies when there is limited medical support or large numbers of casualties.
The course uses a combination of classroom, skills practice and role play to teach the response steps and treatment of injuries and illnesses. The course will include emergency action steps, contacting help, caring for the patient, providing useful information for EMS and healthcare workers, preventing disease transmission, prioritizing care, specific injury treatment, planning and evacuation. Discussion also will be focused on how to apply skills learned to participants specific circumstances.
This event does not include in depth CPR training. This training would be a useful extension to the skills of persons trained in basic first aid and CPR but no prior certification is required. Upon completion of the course, you will be issued a certificate valid for three years.
Refreshments will be provided and you are asked to bring your own light lunch. Please note the start and finish times. Please dress comfortably. Some activities may be conducted outside.

Capital Area Regional Transition Council (CART)

Status: Open

These monthly council meetings are open to Transition Coordinators and other representatives from districts in Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry & N.
