Wilson Reading System

The Capital Area Intermediate Unit has on staff a Wilson Level 2 In-District Trainer. This trainer provides professional development in the Wilson Reading System for the districts within the CAIU region. The CAIU conducts Wilson professional development programs according to Wilson Language Training standards and requirements.

Training is provided in the Fundations Program which is an early intervention and prevention model of Wilson language basics for K – 3. Also, training is provided in the Wilson Reading System for grades 4 to adult. This training includes the Wilson 2-day Overview Workshop and support to teachers using the Wilson Level 1 on-line training.

These training sessions are offered throughout the school year and during the summer months. Follow-up consultation and e-mail support are provided as well as demonstration lessons and short-term material loans. PA Act 48 credits or college credits are available.

For a list of upcoming training seminars please check the Staff Development Workshops under the 48 CARATS button on the CAIU website.

The Wilson Reading System is taught in a 1:1 tutorial or small group class setting. This focused instruction is intended to benefit students who have been identified with a reading disability or those who are having reading deficits in word attack, letter-work identification and spelling skills.
